Her work has been recognized by the communities she has represented.  Among her many awards are three honorary doctorates, from the Law Society of Upper Canada (now the Law Society of Ontario) in 2007; the University of Windsor in 2010; and the University of Ottawa in June 2016. Barbara was made a member of the Order of Canada in 2019.
